What is Advertising?
It’s an age-old question that’s been debated endlessly in every boardroom, Zoom meeting, and entrepreneur’s head. You can Google it and get the literal definition of: “The activity or profession of producing advertisements for commercial products or services.” But that does not get to the core of the question: What is advertising? The late great John E. Kennedy asked the same question a century ago, and came up with this: “Advertising is salesmanship-in-print.” Simple, timeless, and to the point – not a word wasted. But in today’s digital world, it’s salesmanship across every medium where every millisecond of attention is currency for an advertiser, and that is where I come in, if you would allow me to indulge and talk about myself a bit (It’s only my website after all.)
That philosophy shapes how I work. I combine 8+ years of sales success—generating six figures in both retail and e-commerce—with an English degree from Temple University and extensive writing and editorial experience. I understand how to motivate people from interest to action.
My toolkit extends beyond sales and writing. I analyze data, design visuals in Adobe Creative Cloud and Blender, and use Python and RStudio for insights. Whether writing copy, building campaigns, or connecting with prospects, I see advertising as salesmanship at scale.
